It's interesting Ivanka picked this example because the thing Jefferson's enemies were accusing him of -- fathering a child with a slave -- was absolutely something he did. 6 times as a matter of fact. (I have no idea what specific thing Jefferson was moaning about to Martha in that letter, it might not have been the issue of her half-siblings, which she knew who fathered them. But his slave-born children were the most famous political scandal in Jefferson's presidential term.)
