do you think managing by OKRs has anything to do with it? i have heard similar complaints from leaders who should be empowered to fix the problems in their organization but feel powerless. i suspect OKRs / management-by-objectives has something to do with it.
I have OKRs drown entire product and engineering department - a group of 1000 people - in my corporate experience

This a true in most of big tech because most of the organization’s talent gets forced into operation feedback loops leading to months of stagnation. Most of this is caused by overpaid middle management who aren’t in touch with the speed of innovation in the industry.
In all honesty, I believe it is safe to say that not even 1% of large companies (if not ALL companies) accommodate people that (in words I've personally heard before) "care too much about the product for their own good"...
