A reporter yielded the floor to a colleague when the White House passed on a follow-up question
Sarah Sanders says the president did not say “no” in response to a reporter’s question on whether Russia is still targeting the US. She says his “no” was to tell the reporters no more questions.pic.twitter.com/UilIoiQ8Lw
It happened! @PressSec tried to avoid @HallieJackson's follow-up questions by calling on The Hill's @JordanFabian. But Fabian deferred to Jackson, so she could follow up. So many viewers have wanted to see this happen... unity... and today it did.
MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson hammers Sarah Sanders over Trump’s Helsinki walkback: ‘Why should this president have any credibility?’https://www.rawstory.com/2018/07/msnbcs-hallie-jackson-hammers-sarah-sanders-trumps-helsinki-walkback-president-credibility/ …
Here's full clip of @HallieJackson asking Sanders about White House's implausible walk-backs of Trump's comments, Sanders trying to move on without allowing her to ask a follow-up, and @Jordanfabian then giving floor back to Jackson.pic.twitter.com/XjatBUiX4n
Glad to see the media standing up for the other reporters when Sarah tried to cut off @HallieJackson!
If journalists continue to band together and support each other, we'll get more answers from the WH. Good job, guys! Keep pushing!
Topic of a lot of discussion in the press corps after that UK presser. Good on @Jordanfabianhttps://twitter.com/brianstelter/status/1019658627827761152 …
It didn't happen, unfortunately, when Sanders refused a Q from April Ryan and turned to another reporter. (She eventually called on Ryan later.) But: baby steps.https://twitter.com/brianstelter/status/1019658627827761152 …
"Oh, you're not going to answer that?" Press Sec. Sanders declines to answer April Ryan's question on "voter suppression," saying she hadn't been called on. http://abcn.ws/2hFejwL pic.twitter.com/2bk0EB6KOT
Sarah Sanders is not only NOT calling on @AprilDRyan, but she also refused to answer a question about voter suppression that Sanders clearly heard because all other journalists were quiet at the time to allow April Ryan to ask her question.
wow that was a moment from April Ryan at the WH briefing which her colleague who asked the next question completely failed to support
Watching this WHouse briefing: Kudos to @HallieJackson and @AprilDRyan for pushing back hard on consistent efforts to shut down followup questioning by @PressSec. And hoping more reporters in the room support such moves.
Thank YOU @Jordanfabian of The Hill for finally doing what no reporter has been willing to do since the beginning of the Trump presidency! (Has any reporter done this before?)https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1019660178243940353 …
Classy move by @Jordanfabian. And a big thanks to him from our team at @NBCNews. Follow-up questions are a part of our jobs, and it's helpful to be able to ask them.https://twitter.com/RosieGray/status/1019658401532600321 …
Just extending some professional courtesy. All of us in that room are trying to do our jobs and it's important the press corps be united around that mission.https://twitter.com/HallieJackson/status/1019663261434896384 …
(He says "thank you" or simply ignores us.)
