    2) There are two separate appeals related to Montgomery's case that are still ongoing. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on them within hours.

    Just in: SCOTUS, with no noted dissents, denies a request by Lisa Montgomery to postpone her execution, which is scheduled for this evening. Two separate appeals (on other issues related to her execution) remain ongoing and likely will be resolved at SCOTUS in the coming hours.

    3) There was also an additional stay to halt Montgomery's execution filed this afternoon. This stay is from the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.

    One study showed that 35 of 37 death row prisoners said they had been physically abused as children, leading to post-traumatic stress, which is a common precursor for violent behavior. More than half said they were sexually abused.

    Montgomery's legal team has previously argued that she was in the midst of a dissociative psychotic episode when she killed Bobbie Jo Stinnett, a pregnant woman, and kidnapped the child that she cut from Stinnett's stomach in 2004.

    members of Congress have signed onto a letter to SCOTUS asking the Justices to spare Lisa Montgomery's life. they expect the 117th Congress to end the federal death penalty and continuing with this execution would be "both arbitrary and unjust," it reads.

    I am appalled that the court has allowed ’s execution to go forward.   I wrote a letter to urging them to stop this execution.

    The Trump administration has executed 10 death row prisoners in six months after a 17-year lapse in the practice. The last time the federal government executed a woman was in 1953. Stay tuned. We'll be following the case through the evening.

    Update: is in Terre Haute, Indiana, where Lisa Montgomery, the only woman on federal death row, is scheduled to be executed today. Any news related to a stay on her execution from the Supreme Court is not expected to come until 9 p.m. ET.

    Terre Haute prison officials just told me that they're not expecting any news from SCOTUS on Lisa Montgomery until at least 9 p.m. eastern. her attorneys are still filing for relief from various courts.

    Update: There are still matters before the Supreme Court, which will ultimately decide whether Lisa Montgomery will be executed.

    Contrary to some tweets I have seen, has not denied all relief to . Two sets of issues are still undecided — mental competency (7th Circuit) and whether the execution dates violates the trial court's original sentencing order (8th Circuit).

    Update: The Supreme Court has vacated the stay from the 8th circuit for Lisa Montgomery’s execution. Her execution is likely imminent. The federal government has not executed a woman since 1953.
