Dr. Anthony Fauci says ‘it would be better’ if Trump administration health officials worked with Biden's transition team

“The last time the president was physically at a task force meeting was several months ago," Fauci says on CNN when asked about the last time Trump attended a coronavirus task force meeting. Pence usually attends and “translates" the contents to Trump, he said.

Dr. Fauci, asked on @CNNSotu, about Trump Administration blocking transition w/ Biden-Harris, notes he has been through 6 transitions: "it's almost like passing a baton in a race. You don't want to stop and then give it to somebody, you want to just essentially keep going."

Biden Chief of Staff @RonaldKlain says the president-elect is unable to contact Dr. Fauci until the election is certified. "Biden's going to become president in the midst of an ongoing crisis. ... Our experts need to talk to those people as soon as possible so nothing drops."

TAPPER: "Do you see any circumstances in the next few months where it might make sense for local officials, mayors or maybe governors to issue new stay-at-home orders..? FAUCI: "I think that likely will happen, Jake, if we don't turn around this surge." #CNNSOTU

TAPPER: "Is the Pfizer vaccine safe for kids? Has it been tested on kids?" FAUCI: "No, not yet... Once you have a vaccine shown to be safe and effective in an adult, you can go back and do phase one and phase two trials in children." #CNNSOTU

FAUCI: "If you have, on the one hand, an effective vaccine, on the other hand, a high degree of uptake of the vaccine, we could start getting things back to relative normal as we get into the second and third quarter of the year." #CNNSOTU

Fauci tells @jaketapper that even *after* individuals get the vaccine, they should NOT abandon public health measures. "I could feel more relaxed in essentially not having the stringency of it that we have right now but I think abandoning it completely would not be a good idea."

TAPPER: "Once somebody has been immunized... does that mean they can take off their masks, they don't have to social distance...?" FAUCI: "...I would recommend to people to not abandon all public health measures just because you have been vaccinated." #CNNSOTU
