    So... there’s an interesting and complicated history of bringing Lift Every Voice into mainstream sporting/cultural events that I cover in May We Forever Stand. Both a sign of desegregation and decline of Black institutional life. Not surprised by this moment in NFL history.

    When I was a kid, my school had us sing the Black National Anthem at every official event. I didn't realize then how important it would be for me now as an adult. What those words meant. The power that song carries, the strength it reminds you of!

    This could be fun. If the NFL plays the Black National Anthem before games along with the other anthem, what’s that artist selection gonna be like? Gotta be careful picking artists so as to not make it a battle.

    The is about 70% black. They might as well make "Lift Every Voice" they only anthem they play before games moving forward 🤷🏾‍♂️

    Kap still doesn’t have a job in the NFL. I get that. And I also get that some/many will never view the league’s efforts in this space as legitimate. But I’m still blown away. Patches and decals to honor victims of systemic oppression? The Black National Anthem?

    Playing Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing before games is a good gesture by the NFL, but there’s still plenty more to go. I liked that the Black national anthem was played before NCCU game and glad it’ll be played in the NFL. Now if we could also get MEAC bands to perform at halftime
