Tense Manhattan Bridge protest standoff ends peacefully
A standoff between thousands of protesters and the NYPD on the Manhattan Bridge has ended peacefully. On-lookers became concerned as the demonstration crossed the bridge and appeared pinned down on both sides by authorities. However, as the crowd was rebuffed from the Manhattan entrance, police later allowed protesters to exit on the Brooklyn side.

HAPPENING NOW: Stand off. Protestors walked Manhattan Bridge - now facing off with police blocking their entry into Manhattan. There are hundreds of officers here. So far no movement.

At the Manhattan bridge where protesters are being blocked from entering Manhattan. Sgt Arthur Smarsch says they’re not being blocked on the other side, free to go back to Brooklyn. “They just can’t come into Manhattan because of the curfew.”pic.twitter.com/pxUclC460K

Standoff at the Manhattan bridge where scores of police are blocking a large group of protesters from crossing “It’s after curfew. No one crosses into Manhattan unless it’s an emergency” a commanding officer told me. Peaceful so far— more police moving inpic.twitter.com/usygnNoYEr

Very unclear what the endgame is here. A black man who has been protesting all day, only identifies himself as D says “it’s pretty much surreal right now,” but he believes it’ll be a peaceful conclusion, “Definitely, definitely.”

Lots of NYPD cops--unclear if arrests are on the way or if protesters can move off the Manhattan Bridge.
