There's already tons of great tweets abt virginity as a social construct & how the hymen doesn't tell shit.
Another problem is that this teaches his daughter her body is not her own. buzzfeednews.com/amphtml/claris

Sex shaming and sex negativity combined with lack of boundaries obscures lessons about giving and obtaining consent.
This normalizes an invasiveness that makes affirmative consent an alien concept.

T.I. proudly stating he goes to the gyno with his daughter to make sure she's a virgin is disgusting. It's upsetting me that he's putting this out there like it's a genius parenting tactic. Your daughter's vagina does not belong to you. WTF.

Policing girls and teen's sexuality messes them up when they reach adulthood. This situation is an extreme example of this. When your parent was the first to cross these boundaries, you're already being taught you don't have any sexual agency. This is harmful parenting.

I get irritated when I reflect on my sex and repro health education gaps. I was not prepared. There is so much I'm still learning about my vaginal health beyond "staying a virgin," "keep it clean down there," and "wipe from front to back."

Planned Parenthood clears up some misconceptions about virginity and hymens
Idk who needs to hear this but virginity is a made-up social construct, and it has absolutely nothing to do with your hymen.

A virgin is someone who’s never had sex. But “sex” means different things to different people, so “virginity” does too. Many don't care what it means or think it matters. Whatever you believe, the fact is you can’t tell if someone’s had sex by checking their hymen.

The hymen is a thin, fleshy tissue that’s located at the opening of your vagina. Like other parts of our bodies, hymens are a little different for everyone.

Many people think the hymen totally covers the opening of your vagina until it’s stretched open, but that’s not usually the case. Most hymens naturally have a hole big enough for period blood to come out and for you to use tampons comfortably.

Some people just naturally have hymens that are more open. And many other activities besides sex can stretch your hymen — like riding a bike, doing sports, or putting something in your vagina (like a tampon or finger). Once your hymen is stretched open, it can’t grow back.

Some people think you can tell if someone’s had sex before if their hymen is stretched open. But that’s not the case.

The hymen is a left over collection of cells that typically partially occludes the vaginal opening. Many mammals have hymen. Humans, dogs, cats, camels, elephants etc. if this were for marriage/a social construct of virginity then other mammals would not have them. 2/12

The hymen is more rigid at birth and provides more covering for the first 3 years to keep urine and feces out of the infant vagina, which lacks estrogen so is very sensitive to irritants. 3/12

Yes, the hymen is like baby teeth. It served a biological purpose for a narrow developmental window and then when no longer needed is discarded. 5/12

The hymen is no virginity indicator, 50% of sexually active teens do not have a disrupted hymen. The hymen is often very flexible. 6/12

What about blood stained sheets on the wedding night? 2/3 of women have no bleeding with first coitus and for those who do it is usually spotting. The hymen does not have a rich blood supply. Blood stained sheets come from sexual trauma. 7/12
