Netflix experiments with weekly episode drops for some shows

Live

The streaming service announced it will be releasing weekly episodes of The Great British Baking Show and Rhythm + Flow, instead of dropping them all in one go. @Netflix told fans that while those two series will be getting weekly drops, it isn't happening with more shows than that.

No more binging 😕 (kind of) Multiple series will drop one episode weekly instead of all at once:

the weekly release of licensed titles (like Great British Baking Show) isn't new and in hopes of keeping Rhythm + Flow's winner a surprise, we're trying something new! but not happening with more shows than that

Netflix to switch up binge release style, multiple new shows to release just one episode per week. This comes after Disney+ revealed they are releasing episodes of their original shows on a weekly basis instead of dropping them all at once.

  7. Say it ain't so! I love binging, and typically wait for week to week shows finish each season so I can binge them. You don't need to change

  12. Social media trends better on weekly releases vs whole series releases. I figured this was coming. This will also give Netflix flexibility to cancel underperforming series midseason vs their current pay for a whole season and cancel later.

Y’all too symbiotic! Netflix has missed out on all the weekly passion and discussion that fans of GOT (when it was good) & Power fans get weekly! The weekly discussion on Stranger Things would have rocked this season...give a chance!

  15. The streaming wars are getting interesting for a mktg/adv nerd like me: Hulu does a weekly show, no one talks much about that... Disney announces that they will be doing a number of weekly shows positioning the non-binge. Netflix follows a week later. Very interesting.

Disney+ originals will be released on a weekly basis, unlike Netflix’s binge-able season drops.
