Just hours after multiple people were killed or injured in a shooting at a newsroom in Annapolis, Maryland, the New York Police Department announced that it was deploying counter-terrorism teams to provide extra security to media outlets around the city.

    No one's mistakes should be beyond reproach, but the relentless vilification of journalists (from left and right alike) diminish our standing, make it harder to do time consuming and not particularly lucrative work, and even lead to violence. We are not your enemy.
