I think Hong Kong is screwed in several ways, not least because of this coronavirus outbreak. But I don't think there will be mass infections or deaths. HK will not be like Wuhan.

This is also very alarming. We all know the first cases were reported in December but he is saying it could have been even earlier. "He added that it was possible the virus had been transmitted as early as November, according to some modelling."

"I think they tried to keep the figures quiet for a while because of some major meeting they had in Wuhan but I think there was a period of very poor reporting, or very poor communication." I think Mackenzie is right on this.

"John Mackenzie, emeritus professor at Curtin University, said it defied logic that there was no increase in new cases at the same time that Chinese officials were holding local political meetings in January."

There is a lot of bad news about the coronavirus outbreak but at least somebody at the WHO (not Tedros or Dr Mike) actually has the guts to not just criticize China, but call their response "reprehensible".

Given all the struggles Hong Kong is going through like the protests, a hospital strike to force the border to be closed due to the coronavirus outbreak, a mask panic, and even a toilet paper run, I think it's fair to say it's no longer an advantage to be on China's "doorstep"

It's certainly not because of what Carrie Lam said.

Lots of Hong Kong people wearing masks outside now but I'm going to be one of the few that don't (at least for work). I'm not trying to be reckless but after reading several articles from experts, I don't think it's necessary unless you are sick or in a very crowded place.

Come on, Italy , if Vietnam can realize its mistake and quickly reverse its decision to ban Taiwan flights, so can you

Censorship, corruption, inefficiency, shortages - sad but not surprising with China

None other than the US State Department has called out ICAO for blocking people on Twitter over Taiwan. Will ICAO block the US State Department next?

Asian "racism" or discrimination against Chinese as a result of the coronavirus outbreak will be far more serious than in the West. Keep in mind even in normal times, Asians are very discriminatory and racist towards each other.

At least 500 Taiwanese are trapped in Wuhan because China refuses to let Taiwan bring them back. Keep in mind countries like the US, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Germany, New Zealand and France are all flying out their people.

Here's the ICAO's response to me where they claimed to not have blocked anyone.

ICAO claims to not have blocked anyone. Either they are ignorant of what they did last week or are basically not telling the truth.

There are many parties to criticize in this debacle including the WHO, the Wuhan mayor, the local police who arrested the doctor whistleblowers, Carrie Lam, and so on, but the real culprit is the CCP regime and its leader Xi Jinping. I hope Chinese people can realize this.

As the coronavirus spreads, it's clear the Chinese CCP regime is a threat to its own people (Uyghurs, Hubei folks under lockdown, activists), neighboring countries (Taiwan, Japan, India, Vietnam etc), and the world as a whole.

This is sad because it is both cruel and a result of massive distrust in Chinese society. In normal countries (eg Japan), people could be trusted to stay inside without having to be boarded in.

The coronavirus has spread to more countries around the world but I still think that it can be relatively easily handled. But for China, with its inept "emperor" Xi, oppressive authoritarian CCP regime, censored media and lack of civil society, people are screwed.

As President Tsai Ing-wen said, the WHO must let Taiwan participate.
