In a reverse of the Iraq War dynamics, the U.S. can mess with Iran in many more ways than Iran can retaliate. That is a new reality to which pundits and policymakers in the U.S. still need to catch up. My new article in National Review ()

  2. A close aide of Qassem Soleimani, who was one of the earliest operatives despatched to Syria in 2011, was killed. Per Iranian media. In this clip, Soleimani rebuked him for trying to warn him of danger. “You scare me about a couple of bullets?”

Iran is prioritizing the fight in Idlib probably more than it did before. Previously it participated in such battles, of course, but this seems to be taking a whole new twist for Iran.

In his statements, Sadr signs his name in different ways. Last week it was “the Revolutionary Muqatada al-Sadr”, today it is “the one who loved peace and moderation Muqatada al-Sadr”

I'm less sad about Brexit than what it represents: a disdain for fact-based reasoning, the use of soundbites instead of debate, the normalisation of lies, the triumph of deception, the celebration of ignorance, the demonization of experts, & above all, a media that was complicit

Al-Qaeda’s release includes usual reference to the US as “the head of disbelief” & the need to target it. But it also starts the footage with pictures of worshippers in Mecca & Jerusalem. It then references Palestinian suffering. Probably timed to the Kushner deal, as ISIS did.

Here are the documents that al-Qaeda showed to claim credit for the Florida attack. Shooter speaking about his training progress, in general terms. A will he wrote to his family saying he wanted to attack the US and die as a martyr. (No mention of al-Qaeda in his statements)

Al-Qaeda claims that al-Shamrani had been planning for years to attack an American base, and had been training & “selecting” targets. It also provided what it claims was correspondence with him speaking about his training & a “will” he wrote to his family stating his intentions.

Disclaimer: “Arab League’s joint statement doesn’t necessarily reflect the opinion of each member state.” (As individual states not so vaguely supported the deal, and even promoted its core point about the Palestinians’ lack of choice.)
