As much as I understand his sadness, I can't help but feel that he's doing the children he cares for so much a disservice, by allowing them to grow up in a world that doesn't care for them.
Yes, if there are no protests now, he will have his 'stable life' and he can happily retire by the time he is 70. But how about the young protesters? The clock is ticking down and the HK constitution only has 28 more years until 2047. Who are the ones who will have to suffer?
I'm not middle aged yet, but I understand his sentiment. Especially, wanting a "stable life".
Who don't want to have their own home, surround with beloved family members and friends, have a well pay job and your boss ar willing to promote u. The reality is Life always not going smooth as he want. It just show his resilience is insufficient.
Hong Kong citizens had little to do to earn their stability in the past because everything was built on a British system. Freedom and prosperity do not come freely. While the bloomers traded their compromises for career, it is the younger generation to bear the consequences.
There is no such thing as stable life. There is no such things as back to normal. It is a a point of no return. HK will not back to normal under such authority. The stable life that every people in HK thought they are enjoying is actually just a fake illusion.
