Why is she denying her daughter's blackness?

The way I read it was more her inner conflict between her desire to learn about herself and her heritage versus pushing her mother to where she doesn't want to go. It didn't read so much as her denying her daughter's blackness, but more of her barriers surrounding her trauma.

No father's name on the birth certificate? Was that even a thing still in the late 1990s- early 2000s? (She said she was 20).

It’s still a thing today

Her mother being a 5 degree holding philanthropist stanned by Mother Teresa, leads me to believe that she had a bloody good reason for keeping her away from her dad

Mother Theresa wasn't actually that great of a person. It wouldn't surprise me if the mom was just a big pro-life activist.

Do a DNA test like AncestryDNA or 23 and Me. You may be able to find relatives to tell you your dad’s name.

Everyone deserves to know where they come from. I hope you find him. And I hope your mom realizes this is one of the best gifts she could ever give you.

She should ask people that were friends of her mother around that time. Especially the ones that she had a falling out with, they usually have a story to tell.
