I had a student this past year whose every answer to our journal questions was Fortnite. I told him it was no longer an option for him and it would lower his from that point on. He tried,he really did,but it started creeping back into his writing.

Fortnite was his social life and his only ‘positive’ connection to others. On the bright side we started playing tennis and he discovered a new talent
.BTW, it’s a special school for emotionally disturbed kids and we have more leeway in our schedules so we played a lot!

Or you could show an interest in what he’s into now. My son’s screentime has given him toys that feed his imagination (which is SUPER helpful for his art class & writing blocks at school) something to talk abt a school & make friends, & given me an edge on what’s IN now.

So many older folks refuse to learn about “kids these days” then yell about their lost connection. If you want to know the kids, put yourself out there. Don’t expect them to stop and wait for you to half a** itpic.twitter.com/kZ5R1DuuXF

Fortnite is boring after a couple times. All of the games just go in circles nowadays. No strategy. I don’t get how his grandson could be into them so much

I’m a little surprised by these comments. I feel like many children distance themselves from adults at some point. I remember thinking that adults ‘just didn’t understand’ and after maturing I realized it was me who didn’t understand. Hopefully time with heal this relationship!

You can always unplug the internet. It won’t be pretty at first but it will work.
