While I am moved by the story of him quitting for the dog, the dog giving him reason, the dog giving him hope, motivation, love etc. I am deeply, deeply saddened that his own son was not enough to be the one he did this for.

I think sometimes when your child is (rightfully) taken away from you you're left feeling powerless. Because there's a huge and terrifying system that's working to protect the child from your influence. So it's easy to think oh my kid is better off without me I'm a bad person.

@StoryStory_Jo here is a perfect example of what you keep saying. Wish the people that started the drive to take pets away from homeless people in Vancouver can read this. The pets are all they have and the reason to stay out of trouble for most of them. -

I would assume, from my experince working with addicted parents, there was someone more competent to take care of him. When addiction hits people often feel like more of a problem than a solution for their children, that their presence hurts more than their absences.
