I don’t love stories like this. Everyone’s praising this woman for staying, it adds so much pressure to keep loving addicts even when it’s bad for you. My husband didn’t get better - he got violent. I left. But I guess women like me don’t deserve praise, right?

It just plays into this trope of man as flawed, woman as saviour, love saving both. It’s why domestic violence rates are so high, why women stay and go back. We feel so guilty for leaving. We hope they’ll change like this guy. It’s so damaging.
