Sounds like you’re free of the JWs and for your sake, I hope so. I grew up in their cult and it was a horrible experience. We all need something to get a us through and I’m glad you found your escape with the horror movies.

“Bad associations spoil useful habits” - I think I chanted that in my sleep. The irony being that a bad association was anyone non-JW and not on the merits of a person

We all crave to be wild and free. Firm restrictions only fuel the hunger...

Maybe it's your family or the way you were raised. I'm a JW and I was never compelled to do anything. We were only given reasons from the Bible why we had to things certain way. Living by bible principles has helped me and it's still helping me through life i must confess.

Its your family that did it well. Most JW i know all have similar upbringing like hers. You dear not even date/marry someone someone who is not a JW. Is your own like that too?

I grew up as a JW, but left when I was old enough to make the choice. I think the experience made me more compassionate and kind, but would definitely agree that it was controlling and hypocritical. And I had a babysitter (JW too) who let me watch Dirty Dancing at age 9
