“I got a Degree In The Written Arts, which is the most pretentious way of saying ‘English’ that my school could think of. Two internships later-- I’m still working at a restaurant. I finally had an actual job interview last week. The website said ‘big marketing firm,’ but..."pic.twitter.com/C81YoZ5E4Z

Try to combine skills. English = writing = good written communication skills. What else do you have that's possibly competitive? For me, i combined writing skills + chinese language skills + cross cultural fluency to gradually grow a unique set of skills.

Some majors have a more direct path to a career, accountancy, law, engineering, etc. But that doesn't mean your major won't help you get a career, you just have to be creative about it and willing to explore circuitous ways of getting there

Why not teaching indeed but not only in school but as English teacher for foreigners; could be done remotely. He could work as writer or editor as well.

Ok - I seriously recommend this to pretty much everybody I meet but it was one of the best experiences of my life. Go spend a year teaching at a university in China. If you like, I can connect you with the one I went to; they take excellent care of their foreign teachers and

There are still small newspapers who hire with these degrees. There are also jobs writing online that pay decently well. But it may take getting out of the big city and actually seeing the rest of the world. PS. Buy a plunger. They are like $5.
