Turning a blind eye to what is happening around us will not save us from depression..pic.twitter.com/2Lo21aon8l

The news about the things that are happening around us is vastly overrated. It's limited, shallow and selected to keep you hooked. Look at your direct surroundings and try and help them out. Way more useful use of your energy and time.

No therapist should be saying "The news is causing your depression."

My psychiatrist literally wrote, on prescription pad paper, stop watching the news and stay off Twitter. 😂 I’m obviously not totally compliant. But I notice the difference in mood when I limit exposure to the news. I limit my news watching to Rachel now.

I can relate! I stopped blogging bc of this. I was obsessed but it was making me angry at people on real life. Even twitter is too much.

This was me. I actually unfollowed a lot of news twitter feeds just yesterday because it was too overwhelming for me. I follow a few still and will cut down again soon.

I learnt to limit my time reading/watching the news, it was causing me a lot if unhappiness. I now make an effort to seek out the positives and good things that are happening in the world to make sure the balance is always tipped that way.

Used to listen to NPR on my daily commute, 90 minutes both ways. Had to stop. Starting listening to music instead and surprisingly my mood began to change. I was happy again. Now I only spend 15 minutes morning and night catching up on headlines.
