If I hadn’t been able to get out of my marriage to my cousin at 18 in Egypt...I don’t even know. I definitely would not be the same person I am today. That poor woman. If not for a slight change of wind from a butterfly’s flap, that could have been me.

But it wasn’t to be, and you’re making the best of it and extolling the virtues of a happy secular life to people need it the most.

I had nothing but a high school education and a baby when I escaped. And that was before social media or even google. I was completely alone. I now have 3 university degrees and I’m a college instructor-anything is possible. You’re in Canada. Our govt will provide support

Wow that’s amazing, I’m going to leave my family after high school but I’m super scared because I’ll be financially independent and it is really hard to even get a part time job here in turkey, it feels all too impossible for me :(

This is the sad, sad tale of so many Egyptian women. My mother-in-law's doorman married off his 13- year- old daughter because she was a burden to him and would never bring in money like his sons. Two days after her wedding, she ran away.
