“My son is on the computer all the time. He’ll start as soon as he gets home from school and goes until bedtime. It’s some sort of adventure game involving teamwork. He wears a headset and plays with his friends. His goal was to go outside more this summer but that hasn’t..."pic.twitter.com/kqO0kR91tx

Take him by the hand and go outside. Lead by example. Pull the plug. I know it's hard to do, but in the end you're the Dad. One day he will thank you.

It's no different to adults spending hours on twitter, Facebook, instagram and then surfing pintrest/amazon/etzy. At least the kid is talking to their mates and building common ground. "are we gonna complete that level tonight? That boss is super hard" etc.

And most of my kid’s English practice is from the games and talking to other kids online. I still empathize with other parents and think he shouldn’t spend all of his free time on it. But if I look at it objectively he also gets a lot of things I think are positive from it.

Totally get it. You have to enforce time limits. My son got knocked down to 3 hrs a day during the summer. He now rides his bike to meet friends at the pool

That might come across as snarky, but you are making a valid point. You don't want to blame Dad, but there is a strong correlation between kids' screentime and their parents habits.

My older kid is exactly the same. We usually don’t allow all the gaming during the school year because it really absorbs him but during the summer it’s ok. He likes strategy games that are usually set up some time in history and it’s amazing how much he knows about geography and

world history because of it. This is what he likes, he gets a lot of positive things out of it, why focus on what he looses?
