mETH Heads: "I have A GREAT IDEA, let's build our blockchain's reputation around selling investments wrapped up in incomprehensible technical and financial jargon to the general public! Two subjects the public is most ignorant in! We'll make billions!

Otoh, the joke in the industry is that web devs are the worst when it comes to good code, due to the nature of javascript (can you even keep up with all the trendy JS frameworks
?). In that sense, JS is similar to Ethereum. Bad foundation. -
I started out my career doing very low level SW (middleware, OS, drivers) so I’ve had the chance to see both ends of the spectrum. You can find good/bad devs in any tech platform. Some platforms just make it a lot easier to fuck up.

-
Also any platform that reaches mainstream adoption will naturally have a higher ratio of bad/good programmers, since supply of good devs is severely limited & high demand pushes companies to lower their hiring bar (eg: bootcamp graduates). It just comes with the popularity.
-
TL;DR: we should separate the quality of business ideas from quality of the underlying tech. Either could be bad or both could be bad. Mobile apps suck mostly due to bad ideas. Dapps built on ETH suck due to bad ideas AND bad tech.

Absolutely, completely agreed. My post was referring to quality of ideas rather than software engineering skill or talent.
I didn’t mean to come off as condescending. -
Yup, I kinda knew what you meant
just pointing out the subtle difference -
I don't mean to speak ill of any engineer or all of the hard work that people put into projects. It is hella impressive to witness all of the engineering talent. This was only in reference to the get-rich quick scheme crowd. Silicon valley has warped peoples expectations in tech
-
Oh yeah trust me I’ve seen my fair share of overhyped / nonsensical ideas coming out of the valley & I’ve only been here a few years
Uber-for-X, blockchain-for-Y, chatbots, IoT, machine learning etc. there’re some phenomenal engineering tho. -
The ratio of good/bad ideas in crypto might not be all that different relative to the larger tech industry. What’s uniquely different about crypto is the ability to scam money from a large number of people. In traditional tech, the damage is kept local to the VCs.
