The #blockchain is not 'ceasing to be a neutral mechanical system.'
It never was neutral. People always made political decisions that impacted others, & continue to do so. True of all blockchains.
I could go on (for a while), but for now I will leave it at #codersasfiduciaries. https://twitter.com/TokenHash/status/963987749521866752 …

See my work on the finality/irreversibility/immutability myth of blockchains. These cannot be viewed as absolute, given that the humans involved in the system can ALWAYS choose to change their minds. Human agency is always present. https://ssrn.com/abstract=2940335 …

Nothing under the sun is *absolutely immutable*. Given enough energy, even Gold can be synthesized. When we say “immutable” we usually mean it’s *practically immutable*.
-
I think people should just start saying 'tamper-proof'. Immutability creates too much confusion.
-
isn’t “tamper-proof” also a relative term?

-
yea.... you can prove it's been tampered with. A lot of good that does.
-
Exactly. The point is not that they can never be changed ('immutable') but rather that it's hard to do so and that if this happens it is unlikely to go unnoticed ('tamper-proof').
-
I like "tamper-evident."
-
Tamper evident captures one aspect. The other material aspect is that these systems use financial incentives to secure data. So maybe try: "financially secured" data or, to describe the feature, "financially infeasible record malleability" (FIRM is a good acronym)
