It’s laughable because for something to be qualified as a new “generation”, it needs to 1) run live in production 2) have actual proven use cases and 3) stand the test of time.

Agreed. Blockchain is a broadcast protocol, meaning it’s all or nothing. There isn’t much innovation you can do on such a system, only optimization. It’s limited by its nature. We need to build on top, not in. These platforms while noble and nice ideas, are impractical.
-
Which is why they are failing (becoming centralized) and smart money (the more technically inclined) is quietly exiting.
-
The base layer of any blockchain MUST remain as simple as possible, you can do the fun stuff (innovation) ON TOP of it, not IN it.

they can call whatever they want. I call BC is Before Crypto and AC is After Crypto. No 2nd or 3rd.

Taking a basic data structure like a linked list and making it super complex (neural linked list based on loop back feed forward algorithm - blockchain 5.0) does't make it batter, it makes it harder to maintain, understand and develop on. That's the mistake of many cryptos.

what about using the blockchain as a database to store other information outside ledger balances?

Information is money.

I agree there is one proven use case. I disagree the rest are bullshit. In any case, there is no reason not to continue exploring, wouldn't you agree?

Why not all of it simultaniously? :D

Each "generation" can leapfrog the technical debt of its predecessor; so even if we question the term "generation" the later techs can have significant advantages, assuming they have paid attention to their predecessors' weaknesses
