Does the TPM-provided PCR0 always match the TPM event log reconstruction? On my hardware it does, but I'm wondering if that's always true in all cases.

"Nespresso is reinforcing your online security"... by force resetting my password? If there's been no breach, why bother? I sure hope passwords are being stored hashed and not in plain text...

Should the LVFS notify OEMs that they're shipping old versions of microcode?

I wrote a bit about hunting for UEFI Implants, and realising that we’re failing as an industry -- along with some ideas of things we could do to fix it. Comments welcome, especially from and ...

Does anyone know of any data that correlates old microcode CpuId:Versions with Spectre-type security fixes? I want the LVFS to detect ucode being downgraded, or if firmware is being pushed with known vulnerable ucode versions. any ideas?

For me this would be the deal maker. I like rust "the language" I just don't like all the other NIH bolt-on bits.

I've had this thought quite a lot in the last 10 years. The amount of "stop energy" in open source is insane. I'm wondering if I should actually finish reading my Rust book, as there seems like quite of zealotry in the community. "It's not rust, so it's legacy" etc.

Does anyone happen to know how to make a GLib program use UTF-8 encoding on Windows 10? It of course works in Linux just fine...

So I rent with RST and Sphinx: Can any technical writers tell me all the things I've done wrong? I'm trying to make it less "use this XML" and more "this is what the process is". Also, other ideas of content to include most welcome.

What's best-of-breed for writing technical documentation nowadays? I need to write in something that's git-diffable (so no .odt or .doc) and need to export to both PDF and HTML. 2015 me would have used Latex, but meh.

Thanks to Björn Tantau, each device page on the LVFS now has an ATOM feed that can be used with your RSS reader of choice.

fwupd 1.3.6 released like clockwork, with some nice fixes: In other news, I've been battling 'flu for the last week, it'll be another week until I'm back to fighting form.

If anyone wants to join me learning about firmware security from two of the world's experts, it would be great to see you in Germany at the end of January. Alex quite literally wrote the book on this stuff.
