Oh absolutely, much of it is 'planned obsolescence to maintain revenue stream'. I buy only recycled and use Linux (usually Mint). So, 10 year old hardware is fine for most day-to-day stuff. Hardware has high ecological 'cost' to make (water, energy, materials) and to throw away.

Yes thanks. I think the conceptual difficulty is that people don't immediately see this as an eco-issue since it's a tech thing. @Microsoft does its level best to prevent 'ordinary' use of desktop Linux too, in spite of the superficial (platinum Linux foundation member) 'support'
