So is this how it’s going to be? Are we going to have red conferences and blue conferences? Red speakers and blue speakers? Red programmers and blue programmers? Red companies and blue companies? Is that where this is going? Is that really what we want?

The vast majority of people going to software conferences just want to learn about software, and enjoy engaging with people of all backgrounds and political beliefs about... yep, software. So no. This split would be super dumb, and just pandering to the loudest voices on Twitter.

and yet we seem to have reaction and counter-reaction. There's been a big push to unify everyone under the (additional to software) political agenda, but there are conferences who openly rebel. I won't point ringers at them, but a number of them is appearing.

There’s a lot of outrage sure, but only coming from a small number of vocal people on both sides. I’d wager that the silent majority just don’t want to get involved, and most people reading these arguments think “I came here for the software?” and “how do mute this?”

Sure. But the whole thing was allegedly about @linuxfoundation cancelling *attendee* for MAGA hat in front of Trump Tower selfie... That is pretty scary.
