I got my headstrap today, and have experianced the problem using just my thumb on the padding without moisture. HTC we expect replacements.

It's an optional ($100 -- still expensive) addon to the headset, it's not as if the headset itself is just falling apart.

My god that's even worse though. Paying 100$ for a premium official addon to your 800$ product and it just falling apart. RIP.

I don't think it's good but it's literally just foam that's velcroed in, when HTC fixes the issue they'll probably just send out new foam.
