    It shocks me how rarely I see people make the connection between "funding open source" and "funding human life." You search for and together and there is NOTHING. OSS funding can't and won't be solved in isolation. We need to widen the solution space.

    Can handle apps with: - User authentication? ✅ - Dynamic data? ✅ - Asynchronous requests? ✅ - Ecommerce? ✅ - Full-blown SaaS? ✅ You can do SO MUCH MORE than static sites w/Gatsby. Examples: , ,

    PSA: is not just for "sites". It produces static HTML and then rehydrates into a React app. Think of it as an opinionated CRA with built-in SSR and nice integrations w/ CMSs. Please use Gatsby to build apps. Thanks for listening. Happy Friday and happy developing.

    We actually use your configured registry regardless of value in the resolved field. (You can verify this with `npm i --loglevel=http`) This is annoying bit of package-lock churn whose origin is not entirely clear, but ultimately harmless.

    So if I delete `package-lock.json` and run it downgrades a bunch of "resolved" urls from HTTPS to HTTP. I've reported it to the security team a while ago and heard nothing back. Is anyone else experiencing this?

    Hotdang, OCaml is a *beast* 😳 Should be awesome for cloud function type stuff.

    People are already replying to tell me that this is unfair; TS is compiled. OK. Here are some other runtimes for hello world. Each includes full compile-link-execute cycle. Clang: 39 ms (0.028x TS) Golang: 104 ms (0.073x TS) Haskell: 146 ms (0.10x TS) OCaml: 15 ms (0.011x TS!)

    Yes, SSR is still relevant. It's not as simple as saying "Google runs JS nowadays so we don't need SSR". comes to mind as the superior choice in most cases.

    Turns out Google does a two-pass indexing and the first pass doesn’t run JavaScript. That’s kind of a big deal.

    I'm strongly of the opinion that you have to have RSS (or Atom, etc) in order to actually have a blog. Otherwise you just have a website with some pages on it, no matter what you call it.

    FOSS can be tough on maintainers. One really simple trick to maintain positivity is to say something nice at the end of your issue reports. "Thank you for your hard work" or "I love this project." It's small, but it makes a big difference.
