🚨 A good a time as any to say this is my first week as Middle East Correspondent. 🚨
I'll be based in Beirut (soon), where I'll focus on Iraq, Syria & Lebanon. Excited to return to my Levantine stomping grounds. Less excited to embrace our collective dystopian future.🤖🧟♀️

Our ratings are all about how strongly we recommend places, determined by our expertise, context, and instinct (not by a rigid rubric), which gives us the space to take the realities of the moment into consideration with each review.

Restaurants are still finding their way through a strange and difficult time, and we’re keeping that top of mind as we rate them. We’re aware of the supply chain and staffing issues that restaurants still face, among other challenges.

We’re launching today with a couple thousand ratings across the cities we cover, the result of an incredible effort by our amazing team of writers and editors. Of course, not every place is rated yet. Many places aren’t. We’re working on it! We want to get it right.

When we decided to bring back ratings, we knew the pandemic had changed so much, and that our old ratings wouldn’t all be accurate. So we decided to basically start from scratch. Every rating you see on the site today is based on a visit that happened in mid-late 2021/early 2022

Remember how a while back I said that I went to a Michelin starred restaurant and it was one of the most singularly awful meals of my life?
I finally sat down and wrote about the whole fiasco.

I love Miami for many reasons, and especially for its cultural diversity. Our best restaurants celebrate that culture (whether a single one or a combination of many). But the worst ones treat it like a product.
