It’s their job to solve crimes. That’s why. Whether or not you’re likely to get caught rather than what you’ll be charged with is the only significan deterrent factor. Police unions suggesting otherwise are just making excuses for their own failure.

People can reasonably disagree about what accountability should look like. But a person needs to be caught to be held accountable and that’s on the police. I don’t think that’s happened here. But if you know this person (and that they’ve been caught 5X), by all means fill us in.
