I’m not sure who I’m going to vote for but I’m just glad that the first Asian presidential candidate isn’t insane, senile or an ideologue. When there are so few people who represent you, you can’t afford any examples that feed generalizations.

It is the connection between things that give them meaning. Connect events and you get story. Connect data and you get information. Highlight certain connections and you get framing. For me, design is all about meaning.

When your team starts the new decade strong by A/B testing a major feature that addresses a key strategic OKR.

The ability to provide definitions for triggers and events; to communicate the ripples of microinteraction, or atomic implicit events across the system; to visualize conceptual models - is often underestimated. But these are the backbone of and product strategy.

If people can deconstruct solutions and articulate concise research questions then most of your process problems go away. Because the questions drive inquiry, clarify context and purpose. Team is built in how people come together to identify & bridge the unknown.

What I notice is that people aren’t all that reflective about usage of data, so it’s up to the team who generates that data or insight to ask how that data might be weaponized.

This is why I think there is low ROI in cat herding. The cognitive load is so huge that people are just trying to do the minimal thing vs the optimal thing.

Every iteration we make to the product, the team gets together to - question if we’ve isolated the behavior we’re testing - define measures for success - what questions the data might be able to answer - where the bias may lie

Me: What’s the trade off for implementing the feature this way in terms of understanding motivation from the data? Data Analyst: Both methodologies have their flaws...blah blah blah Me: This intelligent answer was what I was after but you know, most days I’m Forest Gump.

The question I ask all the time: What is the feasibility of “what’s first” and how might it inform the possibilities for “what’s next”? For me, roadmapping is outcomes driven by features & capabilities. Always invest in the future.

I've been thinking lately, when there are too many alignment meeting across products to get a small thing done, that is a reflection of the system architecture and a lack of shared focus around the goals, and how that system should scale to meet those goals.

This has been my perspective. There is minimal ROI in cat herding. Try to minimize dependencies and make your team autonomous.
