They showed that commercial data from private companies can successfully provide data that can be integrated into NOAA’s models and improve weather forecasting. It’s an important follow up to the Weather Research and Forecasting Innovation Act of 2017.

This an excellent example of the benefits of the federal government using the commercial resources available. It shows the potential for using commercial data in other models and for other applications like space weather prediction.
