Surgeon's masks are ineffective at blocking incoming virus, period. That's a fact. People purchasing surgeon's masks because they think it will help them are taking resources away from hospitals who need those masks to keep sick patients from spreading the disease.
Don't you ever heard "safety first"? The reason we are wearing mask is to at least protect ourselves because we cannot be sure if someone who didn't wear mask have the virus or not. And while people are trying to encourage others to wear mask, you said it won't help? Really?
