        C Vann Woodward wrote BURDEN OF SOUTHERN HISTORY in the '60's. Then, he wrote an epilogue in the '70's after Nixon and Vietnam. He predicted that the whole country would become like the South because it's a defeated nation.

        1986? Try 1686. But yes, literally my entire adult life. Given that most journalists are my age or younger, I’m still fairly shocked that this is almost never discussed in print or on cable TV. It’s almost as if... well it can’t be that. 🤔
