Weekend reading - a giant book about tiny things and a tiny book about giant things. Both wondrous.

May you take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention. May you be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul. May you experience each day as a sacred gift, Woven around the heart of wonder. - John O’Donohue

May you respond to the call of your gift And find the courage to follow its path. May the flame of anger free you from falsity. May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame and anxiety never linger about you. May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul.

May you awaken to the mystery of being here And enter the quiet immensity of your own presence. May you have joy and peace in the temple of your senses. May you receive great encouragement when new frontiers beckon.

And the $$ is just one part of maintenance investment - time/attention/process complexity all add to this dynamic. In some ways there are economies of scale, in some ways it’s running to stand still.

It’s only Monday am but this new piece from is surely the most helpful thing I will read this week. 1) Maintenance capex is likely underestimated. 2) Even moreso for intangible assets. 3) Goodwill for R3K = $3.8T.

Sad to hear of EO Wilson’s death. But he lived a remarkably productive life and challenged and inspired many. I named “The Consilient Observer” after his book, Consilience. I recently read Richard Rhodes’s biography of him, Scientist, which I recommend.

This book changed my thinking and my life. Thank you E.O. Wilson. 1) Work at the edges. 2) “Nature holds the key to our aesthetic, intellectual, cognitive, & even spiritual satisfaction.” 3) Never stop exploring.

Absorbing this Walt Disney-drawn flywheel map from 1957 (thanks to ) and woah, some labels have changed, but the shapes & arrows are remarkably constant. I want to draw a map like this for every org I know.
