I appreciate the slow journalism movements, epitomized by (expensive) publications like
@dgquarterly and@tortoise, as a reaction to this. But it's not worth the societal cost of news churn to have these interesting groups emerge. -
Is that roughly the trade-off? Slow journalism is expensive because the model doesn’t chase ads via fast traffic, replacing it with (expensive) subscription?

attention is a finite resource and the trend of completely disconnecting from social media will continue; also people will engage in more mediated ways, with less firehose like feeds (e.g. twitter lists, email newsletters). Publishing more will just cause you to get tuned out.
