the only way to make this work would be: complete my subtitling, then use their system to download the subtitles, then DELETE THE VIDEO WITH SUBTITLES, then reupload the video, then readd the subtitles that I already did

I don't have time to render a slightly different version to get around YouTube's draconian "duplicate" system. remember even if i did, no guarantees YouTube wouldn't just add another graphical glitch somewhere. And I'm not deleting the video with subtitles. I don't trust YouTube
