I might be missing something here ... why doesn't the Church (RC et al) buy suitable and sufficient Protective Equipment for Priests who chose/need to minister to the sick and dying?

I heard a piece on the radio this morning about ambulance drivers not having enough PPE. I think the point they make about scarcity is at the heart of it, as long as theres not enough for medical professionals, the Church doesn’t want to direct any new supplies away from them.

Christianity would never have become a global religion if the Saints and Martyrs had behaved like this. No St Paul don't do that it might be dangerous!

Our PP came out yesterday to pray with us when my mother-in-law died unexpectedly, to his credit.

May she rest in peace. That is a tough cross to bear at any time (it's one my wife and I have both endured, in 2013 and 2017, sadly). God be with you and your family.

That’s really not the point though is it? An army chaplain on the battlefield isn’t catching a highly contagious, and potentially lethal, disease and spreading it around the community.

You are so right. The complete de-personalisation of this emergency will come back to haunt the church & possibly cause more long term harm than the sex abuse scandal.

So, in both cases, you care more about damage to the church than damage to its victims?
