The idea that a household pulling in $100k a year can reasonably absorb $15k+ a year in tuition... sheesh. These are the gaps that get added, the bureaucracy needlessly layered on, when a program is means tested instead of universalized.
-
But in order to keep millionaires and billionaires from benefiting, *looks down*, we must exclude the benefits to what amounts to a couple of teachers with 2 kids.

We can raise taxes on the rich and have universal free tuition at public universities. There is no need to create uncertainty for a family with an 8 year old which is hoping to be doing better financially in ten years about whether that would mean failing a means test.
-
Free college costs as much per year as we INCREASED defense spending. This is not some pie in the sky universal program cost.

So a couple who makes 50k plus 51k a year would be left out. If they have 2 or 3 kids, the kids will have to be saddled with debt.
-
No. They won't. There are strong subsidies for household income up to $150K.
