In the face of Unicode, programming languages would do well to drop the concept of a dedicated character type entirely. In Unicode, a character (also referred to as an extended grapheme cluster) is best defined as a string of length one.

Unicode tip of the day. A character is one or more code points. A code point is one or more code units. A code unit is one or more bytes. That is all.

To count an animal population if you can't catch them all: capture some, mark them, release, and capture again. The ratio of new vs already seen tells you something about the total number. Shown here is iterated mark-and-recapture with a Bayesian updates to belief about pop size

`git rebase --interactive` needs a "rework" verb. Secret spell is to `edit` a change, and then at that point issue the command `git reset --mixed @^`. Rework changes and then `git rebase --continue` when done.

TIL: Visual Studio can give you a list of which function to step into if there are multiple options on a line. Instead of doing the F11, Shift-F11, F11 ... dance until you reach the one you want press Alt-Shift-F11 and get a dropdown

Something I'm thankful for this year: 's "Raytracing in One Weekend" series, now available in a web-friendly format: . Went from almost zero-knowledge of raytracing to pathtracing my own spinning turkey in under a year. Incredible resource.
