Videochat may be better than async email and audio-only phone combined. And they all bridge the gap of distance. Yet humans are so good at ignoring what can be seen, thus what cannot be seen quickly becomes a non-issue. Doing with less is ok, but there's trade-off.

The whole thing extends and compounds the existing problem, which is that modern students seldom spend any time living with their mentors. Sharing space remains the golden standard of learning in every domain.
