Europe is an Asian peninsula. Asia is Europe's terra firma. We pretend otherwise to our detriment.
There's Eurasia as an overarching continuum. Then there's a *long" history of spiritual and material interaction. In the recent past, the bridge was Persian empire. Then the difficult colonial period. Even presently, East and West are just one country away, namely Russia.

Of course there is interaction. So what? There hasn't been a "Persian" Empire in a v long time and Iran is largely Indo-European. East and West are cultural constructs, long criticised as meaningless by scholars. I was born east of Japan. Doesn't make me Asian.
