Another problem is this story about "Western Buddhism" which is actually about USA Buddhism. The largest Buddhist Group in the UK certainly does not fit this USA stereotype and never has. I'm sick of this US parochialism.

Yes, well that problem isn't confined to Buddhism(s) in the West (imo better than "Western Buddhism") - it's a widespread American tendency in culture and politics. Perhaps Matthew should have offset to European scholars?

Also RKP talks about his unsatisfactory online interactions. We all have that in whatever sphere we move. Online forums are uniquely toxic. But they do not reflect the demographics or dynamics of Buddhism. Western Buddhists I've met IRL all seemed cool, whatever their faith.
