one thing i find a lot about when people talk about the 60s and the civil rights movement is their brain just forgets the whole 'churches being bombed' and 'national guard had to be used to protect ruby bridges' bits, among others

Older but still valuable is Richard Hofstadter's introductory essay to American Violence (1970): "What is most exceptional about the Americans is...their extraordinary ability to persuade themselves...that they are among the best-behaved and best-regulated of peoples.”

Thank you for talking about this. Very few know. My dad avoided getting medicaid for this reason. As a legally blind amputee with a kidney transplant he needed the coverage but also didn't want to sacrifice his home. Professionals who refer you to sign up never mention it

Medicaid clawback plus a number of states that have “filial responsibility” laws. In a country where long term care is unaffordable & largely owned by predatory venture capital, Medicaid’s actions to “recoup” plus these laws are outrageous

Michael Peña was the best part of the first 2 Ant-Mans. Such a mistake.

I enjoyed Quantumania, but the cheery, fun-to-watch friends of Scott are removed entirely, not even mentioned. Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfiefer move from interesting background characters to middle-of-the-action players, and the daughter, as well. Everyone else is a toy. 8/

Wow. A thread of +20 historical tweets that claim to explain what is happening in Israel without so much as a mention of the occupation or Palestinians, the native population. 🤦🏽‍♂️

1/ THREAD: Israel is currently undergoing a period of revolutionary change, and the pace of events can be difficult to keep up with, even for those residing and working here. Let me attempt to clarify some of the developments we are witnessing. (video of Sat demo, @NTarnopolsky)

All these stories are like “well, we could save lives or we could save twenty cents, so we’ve gotta go with the twenty cents.”

The drinking water in many communities is contaminated with harmful “forever chemicals.” Removing those compounds will be expensive and especially difficult for small towns. apne.ws/vQXSYKn

I will ask my able-bodied and healthy CA friends to please do me this favor: write a complaint at the link below, and help us keep masks in medical facilities, the most unavoidable places for the high-risk people in your lives.

Lodged a complaint w/ @CAPublicHealth (cdph.ca.gov/Pages/contact_) over the removal of masking requirements in healthcare settings & asked Alameda County (@Dare2BWell, ncov@acgov.org) to #KeepMasksinHealthcareCA Feel free to copy-paste my alt text & keep the pressure on
As a disabled & immune compromised Californian, I'm appalled by the decision to end mask requirements in healthcare facilities. This decision hurts patients, healthcare workers, & businesses. For patients, it will mark the end of safe access to healthcare & will drive disease spread & increase illness, death, & disability. For health care workers, it will hurt their ability to access personal protective equipment from employers, & will increase illness, death, & disability among workers--exacerbating the existing healthcare staffing crisis. For medical facilities, it will leave them short-staffed & put them at risk of liability for harming patients & workers.

If the Covid pandemic taught us anything, it should be the importance of mitigating airborne transmission of infectious pathogens, especially in essential public places where the most vulnerable must exist, & in places where there's a higher likelihood of disease spread (e.g. healthcare facilities where sick people congregate).

Clearly the window screws preventing bus windows from opening to increase potential covid exposure is policy. The 1856 is the third in as many am rides to have them in place.
And the 1923 has window screws preventing opening windows in the back (had to look at app to get number as it was not visible)

Good Morning Melissa. Can you give us the number of the bus you're on?
This was always the purpose of inventing "organized retail theft." The term implies hierarchy and premeditation, and distracts people from the fact that shoplifting has a tiny footprint and is overwhelmingly a crime of poverty.
Quote Tweet
because of the fake retail theft panic, virginia has created a new habitual shoplifter offense. it's a class 3 felony, which puts it on par with the crime of shooting or stabbing someone with the intent to kill or grievously harm. fox5dc.com/news/virginia-
