.@SFjkdineen writes that politicians can point to units they’ve approved to show they’re addressing the housing crisis, regardless of whether the units get built. “People don’t live in building permits — they live in homes,” said @Scott_Wiener.

I’m in solar and 80% of massive install delays are due to building dept red tape permitting. Many ppl don’t realize that permit rejections are often due to petty rqmts, sometimes kickbacks based on formatting preferences. I’m sure big commercial residential projects face this x10
-
Kickback examples I’ve dealt with that resulted in 3+ month permitting delays: -Note in left hand corner vs right hand corner. -Map imagery style. -Redundant note req’s. The issue is, none of this is standardized and req’s can change mid-review based on plan checker preferences.

Because SF is a cesspool of grifting politicians and non-profiters who reap financial benefits from a large homeless population via the homeless industrial complex. End of story.
-
just to make sure i understand- your theory is that a shadowy cabal of nonprofit orgs and city pols prevent housing from being built so they can make money off people who... live on the streets?

surprising? 75 years of megaprojects & planning history predict it pretty well.
-
yeah. Mission Bay was a great project and I love living here but we only have so many big brownfields. we need to allow the West side dunes to be developed to at least high lot coverage walkup densities, and that can be done incrementally without mega projects.

Lol there’s room for way more than 30k. We aren’t even as dense as Paris, much less Manhattan. Sorry about things getting eff’ed in Hayward - if we actually built the housing in SF there’s be less demand in suburban places like Hayward.
