Seems like an extreme case, to be sure, but I had a far more mild version which still had enough overlap that, yes, public school is generally worthless for academic education and painfully slow for anyone who reads independently.

Sounds fairly familiar. In my school they gave gifted students the SAT in seventh and eighth grades. Wish I remembered the exact #'s but was in 1100s in 8th. I did not particularly like school. I went to a state award ceremony and sat next to the girl who got 1550 in 7th g. 1/2

I asked her if she was going to skip grades or something and she was like nah.
