I identify as queer, have since like 1993. I spent a minute or two deciding whether to use queer or LGBT and made that choice. You can disagree with it, but it is a choice I made.

Disgusting. Imagine calling us all a slur and thinking its ok and acceptable

No, actually. Just because you're not OK with it doesn't mean other people (like me, for example) have to follow your silly rule.

Really, you're just demonstrating how you've internalized the stigma to which we are all subjected, especially when you choose to police other LGBTQ people's use of language to describe themselves.

So, hold up, you’re “reclaiming” a word that was never actually ours (F), but OP isn’t allowed to use the word which was ours to begin with? I’m so confused rn. And then, at 23 you speak of “older” folks. I’m almost twice your age, queer has always been ours.

I mean the abbreviation is “LGBTQ+,” the “Q” stands for “queer.” Some people legitimately identify as being genderqueer.
-
In the wrong context, yeah, queer can be offensive, but it DOES apply to some of us.

A big survey actually found most LGBT community members see queer as "reclaimed" and "no longer a slur"
