The sheer transparency of his need to valorize the (19th century) Republican party, as if their being the good guys 150 years ago applies to their nominal successors today.

They also used to only go back to the Civil Rights Act, but I guess too many of them are uncomfortable with that legislation, so now they go all the way back to Lincoln.

An observation, which could (in this case) be a distinction without a difference: D’Souza always argues in bad faith, seeking to build his brand as someone who owns the libz. McLaughlin, I think, wants to make a historical argument, though like many people he has strong priors.
